St. Paddy's Day at Durty Nellie's

When I lived in the US, I was never really into celebrating St. Paddy's Day.  To me, it always seemed like a big frat party where a bunch of drunkards descend upon the streets, wearing green shirts and playing bagpipes.  I know there's a big Irish population in the US, but it just seemed like an excuse for people to get together on Wednesday nights and drink my not-so-favorite beverage - beer.

Well, when you live abroad, things change.  Since I'm not home anymore, I find myself participating in all sorts of activities that often remind me of home.  Sooo...believe it or not, I too have been joining the crowds of drunkards for the past 2 years in Beijing, wearing green and celebrating St. Paddy's Day in a city of 17 million where nobody seems to know what a leprechaun is.  And yes, I've been drinking beer, and not just any beer, but good ol' Guinness.

A bunch of us went to Durty Nellie's, a popular Irish bar last Wednesday, and here are the pics from that night -

The night started off rather civilized.  Here's me with Joyce, Sarah and one of Joyce's friends, sporting shamrocks on our cheeks.

Fumi, Mike and I

Me, Deb and Cheech

Me and Deb, laughing and sharing secrets

As you can see, the girls and I looked pretty tame...

The boys on the other hand...

Were a different story...hahahahah

Not sure what Mike and Joe were doing...but it looked like they had a lot of fun

Maybe a little too much fun

An Irish bagpipe player and his Chinese drummer held a little concert

So Joe ran over to give him a hug

Haha, looks like Mike got a little upset with Joe (this picture cracks me up!)

So I tried to make him feel better

Afterwards, he tried to swing dance by himself...

And by the end of the night, he was so happy he ran over to kiss the fat lady.

HAHA...St. Paddy's Day was fun.  Good times everyone!!!
